What is a Messenger Volunteer?

People who care and want to volunteer their time and efforts in improving the health and well-being of the Crow people. They can work with one of our projects (see current projects tab) or receive training to provide health education outreach, calling on friends and relatives to share valuable information and provide encouragement in the same way Crow people have learned about health and life for centuries – through other community members they trust and respect.

A Messengers is recognized in the community as an individual who:

  • Others seek out for support and advice

  • Is open and interested in sharing their culture

  • Will maintain confidentiality

  • Is involved in the community

  • Have integrity

  • Is knowledgeable, but humble

  • Is respectful and respected

Interested in Volunteering?
  • You will be asked to write a brief essay about why you want to become a Messenger.

  • Your essay will be presented to our Advisory Board for approval

  • When approved, you will be asked to sign a Roles and Responsibilities Contract

  • You will then receive orientation training

Honoring Our Messengers Reunion

In 2023 we started our annual Messengers For Health reunion "Honoring Our Messengers." This is a celebration of all the messengers (volunteers) we have had over the years who have dedicated their time to help us with breast cancer awareness and prevention, chronic illness management and many other projects. We share a meal, have guest speakers share their stories and do activities together!

Pictures of the event are shown below as well as events and activities over the years.
